Caring for beadwork
-
Yes, your earrings can handle getting a bit wet occasionally. It is fine to wear them when your hair is wet, or when it is raining. However, we do not recommend wearing your earrings where swimming or bathing. When your earrings do get wet, lay them flat to dry. Earrings particularly should not be submerged in salt water.
-
It is best to lay your earrings flat or hang them when they are not being worn. For fringe earrings, it is especially important that they are stored with care to protect the fringe. Save the packaging that your earrings arrive in for traveling. This packaging will ensure that your earrings are stored flat, don’t get caught or tugged by other items, and is compact to fit anywhere you need it to when on the go.
-
The thread used in the fringe of your earrings does have memory. This means that they can become bent and kinked if stored improperly. However, kinks can be reversed if they occur. To re-straighten the fringe of your earrings, start by hanging them for a few days. If the kinks persist after hanging, they can be gently streamed.
-
Boil a kettle of water
Carefully hold the fringe of the earrings in the steam for a few seconds
Gently pull on the fringe from the top to the bottom
Lay flat to cool
Repeat a second time if required
*Note: Some bead finishes can rub off from wear and tear, including from steaming. We only recommend steaming fringe earrings when hanging has not resolved stubborn kinks, as it can reduce the longevity of the finish on some beads.
